It seems like there are never enough hours in the day! No matter how much we think we can get done before you know it the sun’s going down on us! Busy parents are some of the most hardworking people, yet they hardly have time to take care of themselves for a few minutes daily.

Mental Health and Parents

Mental health in parents is also directly connected to their child’s mental health, according to the CDC. If a parent’s mental health is not well so too will the child’s mental health suffer. A child learns from their parents how to mentally cope with any difficulties and so making sure that you as a parent have enough charge in your battery to set an example for your child is imperative

Getting Enough You Time

Being a parent means crazy schedules, packing lunches, doing laundry, and dishes, cooking dinner, and grocery shopping– all those tasks that don’t give you enough time to just be with your family. How can you make time in your day for yourself and for your family?

Quality You Time

It’s been proven that getting alone time is not only good for mental health but also good for productivity, creativity, and building mental strength. When you have enough time to yourself you are more rested to be around others. Alone time is healthy and it’s important to make sure you schedule yourself some.

1. Prioritize what needs to be done and schedule it

Before going to bed, write down what you need to do. Just writing down what you need to do helps to declutter your mind and that lack of having to remember everything is very calming!

Once you have a few things written down, organize them from the most important to the least, that way you know what you need to do first so you can make sure it gets done.

2. Schedule your day the night before

Taking your tasks into a schedule helps you to further prioritize them by how much time you have available for them. It’s been proven that organizing your day helps you to be more efficient.

Maybe scheduling your every day is a bit overwhelming at first, but the habit can develop slowly to the point where it becomes a lovely habit that is enriching your life! All of the sudden you may find you are getting more done and/or have more time to take care of yourself and your family.

3. Plan activities for the kids outside the home

Another good tip for getting enough you time is to help your kid's independence by planning activities for them to do on their own (when they are at a reasonable age of course!). Sending kids off alone may be scary, but studies show that children who do things alone have more developed independence and self-confidence.

While the children are at a friend's house, a sports club, or a music lesson you can get more things done at the house so you can be more present when they come home, not distracted with all the things that need to get done around the house.

Conclusion
